1. Margins
Margins are the blank spaces around the edges of your document. Adjusting margins changes how text is positioned on the page and ensures that your document looks neat and professional.
How to set margins:
- Go to the Layout tab.
- Click Margins.
- Choose from preset options like Normal, Narrow, Moderate, or Wide.
- For custom margins, select Custom Margins and enter the measurements you want.
Tips:
- Standard documents usually use a one-inch margin on all sides.
- Wider margins are useful for printing drafts or adding notes.
2. Orientation
Orientation determines whether your document is vertical or horizontal.
Two options:
- Portrait: The page is taller than it is wide. This is the most common orientation for letters, essays, and reports.
- Landscape: The page is wider than it is tall. This is useful for charts, tables, or presentations.
How to change orientation:
- Go to the Layout tab.
- Click Orientation.
- Select either Portrait or Landscape.
3. Page Size
Page size is the overall dimensions of your document. Different projects may require different sizes.
Common page sizes:
- Letter: Standard size in the U.S., 8.5 x 11 inches.
- A4: Standard size internationally, 8.27 x 11.69 inches.
How to change page size:
- Go to the Layout tab.
- Click Size.
- Choose from the list of available page sizes.
- For custom sizes, select More Paper Sizes and enter the width and height you need.
Tips:
- Make sure your page size matches your printing requirements.
- Changing page size may affect margins and layout, so review your document after adjusting.
