Introduction
Styles in Microsoft Word are pre-defined sets of formatting options that help you maintain consistent and professional-looking documents. Using styles makes it easier to format headings, paragraphs, lists, and other text elements quickly.
What Are Styles?
A style is a collection of formatting attributes such as font, size, color, spacing, and indentation.
Common types of styles include
Heading Styles – Heading 1, Heading 2, Heading 3
Paragraph Styles – Normal, Quote, Intense Quote
List Styles – Numbered or bulleted lists
Accessing Styles
Open the Home tab on the Ribbon
In the Styles group, you will see a gallery of available styles
Hover over a style to preview how it looks in your document
Applying a Style
Select the text you want to format
Click on the desired style from the Styles gallery
The text will immediately adopt the chosen style’s formatting
Modifying Styles
Right-click the style in the Styles gallery and select Modify
Change attributes such as font type, size, color, and spacing
Choose whether changes apply only to the current document or to all new documents based on this template
Creating Custom Styles
In the Styles group, click Create a Style
Name your style and define the formatting options
Save it to use across your document or future projects
